GOWN VERSUS DRESS

    Okay, so . . . is there really a difference between a wedding gown and a wedding dress? I mean you hear designers and savvy merchandisers referring to what you wear on your big day as either gown or dress. So which is it?

    Defined, gowns are anything to the floor and definitely ones with trains and/or extensions are considered super gown-worthy. For me the gown at its quintessential best is 'Harlowesque' lean-lined and clingy, something Hollywood designers borrowed for evening wear from sexy nightgowns back in the 1930s (hence comes the gown). The dress on the other hand can be any silhouette--even a ballgown--as long as it's ankle length or above. A good example of ballgown silhouette as dress is in the second image directly above. BTW my favorite length and silhouette for bridal wear right now is Ballerina, just above the ankles and very full . . .

INSPIRATION SUNDAY

    O Mistress mine, where are you roaming?
    O, stay and hear; your true love's coming,
    That can sing both high and low:
    Trip no further, pretty sweeting;
    Journeys end in lovers meeting,
    Every wise man's son doth know.
    What is love? 'Tis not hereafter;
    Present mirth hath present laughter;
    What's to come is still unsure:
    In delay there lies not plenty;
    Then, come kiss me, sweet and twenty,
    Youth's a stuff will not endure.

WINTER BRIDES

Guest Post: Merci New York!

    Hello, I’m Jacqueline from Merci New York and I’m thrilled to guest post on Weddings Fresh today. Dani has asked me to share some holiday inspiration with you, and though aqua and red has trended for quite some time, I just adore its versatility.

    {Row 1: holiday centerpieces from Lyndsey Hamilton Events, landscape via We Heart It, typewriter {on sale!} on Classic Bride} {Row 2: Rasperry macaroons via Canelle et Vanille, portrait Denise Grunstein via Wedding Nouveau,Gift tags seen on Once Wed} {Row 3: mantle of the lovely Miss Pickles Press, pastry-twined invites at Once Wed, floral arrangements at the home of bash eco events} {Row 4: A tablescape from Hostess with The Mostess, festive cake by The Cake Studio}

    During the holidays, crisp turquoise works wonderfully against cranberry red, imparting a bit of mid-century nostalgia into, well, everyone’s favorite season to be nostalgic. Instantly, the winter chill is lifted and we feel warm, cozied and content… Yet if we fast-forward halfway into the New Year, the same palette is once again relative-- Cranberry brightens to coral, turquoise transitions to a lighter sky… and the effect of contrast remains simply stunning. Vibrant red and cool blue are truly a universal pairing for any season.

    Merry Christmas and warmest wishes for a wonderful 2010!

    make sure you all check out Merci New York today as i am guest posting over there with some gown and decor holiday inspiration as well! i hope you all have a Merry Christmas and i will see you next week!!

A LITTLE MONDAY INSPIRATION

    Christmas Wedding

    In the midst of all the holiday hoopla, stop a moment and glean a bit of inspiration from this array of images I found on Style Circle. The decorative accents like a spray of berries, miniature pine cones embellished with needles are simple and elegant touches. If you have all the right materials handy, you can decorate a package or table top in a few minutes. The dress is a total dazzler from Dolly Couture lending itself beautifully to holiday chicness . . .
